The Overlook Hotel Carpet Installation

www.SashaKrieger.com

"In The Overlook, I recreated a carpet from Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 filmThe Shining in the Lobby Gallery in the Dominion Hotel. By introducing a visual motif from the film into a hotel on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, I was interested in exploring the multiple and shifting influences that create a sense of place. The orange, red, and brown geometrically patterned carpet served as a potent visual signifier of the horror and aesthetic of the cult classic, in which Jack Nicholson’s character descends into madness while attempting to write a novel. Seeking to emulate anxieties about production and isolation central toThe Shining, I produced the 500-square-foot carpet through the labor-intensive process of latch-hooking. I worked 16 hours a day over a 19-week period to complete the project and over 40 people participated in the making of the piece, transforming what would have otherwise been a controlled and solitary effort into a process of openness and exchange."

Intricate Vinyl Art by Carlos Aires & Introducing The True Vaults

A little shout-out to the Queen of Vinyl, Tanya Mellotte, who was one half of the DJ team behind the clubnight Skibunny, my favourite night of the week when I was in my 20s. Also where I had my first kiss with my now husband!

Tanya has been in LA for a while & has recorded new music with a wealth of talented folks.

"The album was recorded in Los Angeles in 5 days and features Chris Bruce (producer/guitars), Deantoni Parks of the Mars Volta (drums), Jebin Bruni (keys) as well as some very special guest appearances to be announced! The music moves from straight-up indie rock to cinematic desert-style ballads."
